When I hit Excel button in another application sheet won't open

I use an application that has an Excel button to open a defined spreadsheet,
but when I hit the Excel button the Excel program opens to a blank grey sheet
instead of the sheet defined in the path. ???

You cannot Start Excel by opening a workbook. This applies to Excel Xp and
later..

you will need to write code to start Excel first then load the spreadsheet
(workbook).
