When I import a graphic of 300kb the word doc becomes 5MB. Why?

Hello.

I have a jpg which is 300kb in size. When I drag and drop it into a word doc
and type some text, when I save it, it becomes 5mb large. What am I doing
wrong?

Dragging images into a Word doc is one of those fantastic convenience
features whose time has not yet arrived - at least not from any practical
standpoint other than MS' marketing department

Use the technique that works correctly & you shouldn'r have the problem:

Insert>Picture>From File

If your dragging directly from a browser window, that can be even worse...
Right-Click the picture, Save As to your hard disk, then use the above
method to insert it into the doc.
