When I import .pst files into Outlook they vanish

I have a new laptop running Vista Home premium and Office 2003. I have .pst
files from my old laptop on a memory stick. When I try to import them into
Outlook they appear to transfer OK, and the file name appears. And then it
and the files vanish! What is happening? Can anyone help?

Don't import. Transfer the PST files to your laptop and then use File > Open
in Outlook to browse to them and open them.
