When I modify normal.dot i can't see changes on double click

When I modify the Normal.dot file, I can't see the changes when I double
click. But I can when I right click then open?
This seems odd, when it is supposed to open a new document based on the
template settings.
This is on a network using Novell and Zen works.
I have tried changing the local .dot file and also the network .dot file

Any ideas
