When I open a MSP file, my task numbers are out of sequence.

I am having MS Project files that open with the task ID numbers out of
sequence. For example, when I reopen a saved file, a summary task from
within the project is automatically moved to a random row within the project.
I am also seeing tasks being re-indented (both in and out).

Hello JT,

My guess is that your project file has been sorted. Go to Project >
Sort > Sort By and select ID. That should return your tasks back to
the original order and restore the summary and subtask relationships.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I re-sorted the tasks by ID. That worked well.

When I open the file, the summary task sorts by "start date" rather than
"ID." I want it to always sort by ID, not the start date. Would you happen
to know why the file would automatically default to "sort by start date"?

Hi JT,

If you've resorted the file, saved and reopened does the file retain
the saved sort order?

Yes, the file is put to "NO Group" Would this change the Grouping on a
particular file if it was opened on another PC on the network? or sent
through email?

Thanks!

I have sorted by ID, then saved the file, then closed and reopened and the
file was once again sorted by "Start Date"

Hi JT,

Well, short of a macro that runs at start up, I can't think of any
reason for that to occur. Are you aware of any macros in the file?
