This happens when I paste from excel or word to word. With excell I just
select extra columns and rows and delete them, but I am stumped as to how to
fix it with word to word. Can anyone help???

When you select the Word table do you include the End of Row markers at the
extreme right of the table?
How do you slect the table? Mouse drag/select, click the four-arrow table
indicator, or Table, Select, Table menu?
If you dont see these markers, either click the Show/Hide icon (backwards-P)
or Ctrl+Shft+8 to reveal the non-printing characters.
Having these markers selected helps control the paste conditions.
Hope this helps

I select the whole table, it only happens on my computer at work, and I have
been using these programs for years and have never come across it before.
Today I just selected text on weither side of the table and the whole table
pasted fine. very obscure. thank you for your suggestion though

Sometimes the addition of the Paragraph Mark immediately following the table
in the selection can help control the paste.
Glad you have solved your problem
All the best
