When I tab forward then delete back, bullets are deleted

In the past, when tabbed forward a bullet would increase one level, and when
I pressed backspace, it would decrease one level. Suddenly it started
deleting my bullets when I press backspace. What happened? This slows down
my work.

I presume you are referring to Word? If so, for Word 2007 click the Office
Button, click Proofing, click AutoCorrect Options and on the AutoFormat as
you Type tab make sure "Set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces".
For previous versions of Word go to Tools/AutoCorrect Options. If you're
using a version prior to Word 2002 then you'll find it in Tools/Options.
