when I try to defrag or scan for errors I get a window coming up .

The window says a program is running and has had to restart 10 times it will
be quicker if I turned it off, it never completes. I dont however have any
program running. A friend told me it has something to do with having office
installed and you can turn it off. He couldn't remember how to do it. Has
anyone heard anything about it?

Defragment may stop and restart anytime a access or write action occurs for
the partition being defragged. Your Windows version determines how sensitive
fermentation is to a disk access. I am not aware of any specific Office
impact. Try booting to Safe mode and trying to defrag there.

Other than the above, suggest you post your question to a newsgroup for your
version of Windows.

Hi Tans,

If you have full time internet access that's one possibility.
If you are using Indexing in Office (in the Task Pane in Word)
or in Windows and its set to index in the background that's
another possibility of activities that may go unnoticed,
some screen savers, or if you have a microphone on for speech...
