I am unable to use a text box in Normal View. Word (office 2003 for
students) automatically switches me to Print layout view. And if I put
anything in the text box in print layout view it doesn't appear on the normal
view.
I also can't move any objects or pictures that I've inserted into the word
document. off the left column. It will only let me resise them to bigger or
smaller.
Help! (I'm used to the old '98 version)

Text boxes are in the drawing layer, which is not visible in Normal
View. This is also why Word switches views when you add a text box in
Normal View.

For objects and pictures I believe recent versions of Word by default
uses the in line with text placement option, which explains why you
can't move them by dragging. Choose Format>Object (or Format>Picture),
click the Layout tab and pick a different "Wrapping style" than "In
line with text", and then you'll be able to position it the way you
want.
