When I type in a cell, letters appear as single letters overwriting the last letter.

When I try to add text to a cell by placing the cursor at the end of
some text, I have this problem... the cell automatically shades to
grey, and the letters seem to overwrite each other. For example, if I
were to type the word "excel" the 'e' would be deleted when I typed the
'x', the 'x' would be deleted when I type the 'c', etc. This is
happening on old files AND new files, and when someone else opens the
file form the server, they can't save it--it tells them it is
read-only. How can I fix this?

AFAIK, I've never seen this. Does this happen with local files?

If you'd like, send me a file that's behaving this way, and I'll take a
look. In order to make it through my filters, send it from the address
above, with the file zipped or stuffed.

On Windows there's an "Insert" key which will cause exactly this. I don't
think there's any such key on my keyboard, though.
