When Insert File doesn't

J

James

I'm thinking virus here, but...

I have document X open in Word 2000, in which I want to insert file Y,
another document. Word, instead of inserting file Y, wants to Send it to
somebody.

Reboots and "Detect and Repair" don't seem to have any effect.

Thoughts?

Hi James,
I have document X open in Word 2000, in which I want to insert file Y,
another document. Word, instead of inserting file Y, wants to Send it to
somebody.

Reboots and "Detect and Repair" don't seem to have any effect.
Right-click the icon on your Desktop you use to start Word.
Go to the Properties, and in the "Target" box make sure there's a single
space after winword.exe". Type: /a

Close the dialog box and double-click the icon. Word should start up with
the installation defaults and no macros. Does the behavior persist, or is
it gone?

Remove the /a switch.

If the problem is gone, start by moving everything out of the STARTUP
folder (look in Tools/Options/File locations if you don't know where it
is). Start up Word. Still gone, or is it back?

If it's back, you can put everything back into the STARTUP folder and
rename the Normal.dot template to NormalOLD.dot then test again.
