when is next onenote upgrade expected?

I'm holding out on buying a tablet pc until onenote offers (1) easy transfer
of pdf (and word) docs into onenote (2) simultaneous search and mark-up
capability of such documents, and (3) the ability to select only changed
pages to be attached as a separate file to be e-mailed (without having to
transfer multi-page documents one page at a time). If onenote were upgraded
to incorporate these capabilities, I would buy a tablet pc and onenote in a
heartbeat.

Does anybody have any idea if there are plans for onenote to include such
features, and if so, when such an upgraded version might be released?

I'm not sure if those features are going to make it into the next version
or not -- I don't think the vision for OneNote is to be a mark-up tool per
se, though certainly some of that capability is inherent.

As to the next major release -- I wouldn't expect to see it on the shelf
at your local computer store before fall of 2006 at the earliest. Tablet
PCs have a lot of capability and OneNote is only one application for it.
If you think Tablet ability would help you I wouldn't hesitate to buy
one. I find mine to be very valuable.

I sure wouldn't penalize myself over a single application, but perhaps look
for other avenues to continue doing what currently pleases your computer
operations right now, but on a Tablet PC. Check out GoBinder, for instance
at www.gobinder.com and look around for other programs doing exactly which
you want but also on a Tablet PC.

Most users out there are getting used to .pdf files being important in
their everyday lives. .PDF format is a major threat to the usefulness
of .doc files. Microsoft is, and should be, scared of .pdf.
Convenient support of .pdf files is extremely unlikely to be a part of
OneNote.

I agree .... OneNote will not be upgraded until the next version of
Office is out.

Not sure why MS should be scared of PDFs. They have a place and are very good
at what they do but hardly a threat to, say, Word which is great for
generating a PDF.

As for importing PDFs There would be limitations on what could be imported
as PDFs can be locked for copying (amonst other things).
