When launched, Word opens old doc

I have a MacBook running OS 10.4 with Office 2004. When I open Word,
the first file ever created in it automatically opens every time.
Before I start trying random things (tossing preferences, deleting
template, reinstalling Office) I thought I'd check to see if anyone
had more of a clue than I do.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

You've somehow managed to have that doc's content saved to your Normal
template (on which new docs are frequently based). See instructions at this
link. If you have no customizations to be concerned about the existing
Normal can be deleted (use a Finder window while no Office apps are
running). OTOH, review the bottom portion of the page if you have
customizations to recover.

Bob: That's what I figured but needed to confirm. Changed Normal and
now it's fine. Thanks for your help -- get yourself a drink on my tab.
