When merging two documents, how do i merge their references?

My two dcuments, each has a refernce list that was automatically genertaed by
Adding-in from Endnote libraries. Now that I merge the two documents, the two
lists stay separate. Since I have no direct access to their contents, only a
view access, I cannot even merge them manually.

Help!
