When opening Word/Excel - "Error 1402 Setup cannot open the registry key"

I get the above error when opening Word or Excel. I have Office XP
Professional and Windows XP home. The 2 reg key errors I get are
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
Tools\Custom Dictionaries and then
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\Internet.

"Verify that you have sufficient permissions..." etc.

I click OK on both, and then get prompted to enter my name and
initials. I click through those, and I am able to get in. Can't find
any solution, can anyone assist? Thank you
