When Quitting...

J

Jeff Schuh

Every time I quit Word, whether I've saved and closed the document
I've been working on or not, I always get a dialog telling me that
Word "can't complete the save due to a permission error." I then
cancel the dialog box asking me to save something into "My Templates"

I quit the program again, and it tells me "Changes have been made that
affect the global template, Normal. ..." I "Don't save" this, and
Word finally quits.

How can I stop these gymnastics? I'd like Quit to mean Quit.

I'm running OSX 10.1.5 with Office 2001

Thanks

Hi Jeff:

Fire up Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

You do not have Write access to your My Templates folder. Repair
Permissions should fix this. However, it may not be able to. You have a
hybrid setup there, with OS 9 running as a dependent application in OS X.

However, since it behaves like an independent operating system, OS 9 can
sometimes get ideas above its station and start fighting the real operating
system for access and permission to things.

If you are going to be using Word every day, I would suggest that it's time
to throw some money at the problem :)

Wait for the post-christmas sales, then shell out for enough memory to take
your computer to 1GB of RAM, then put in OS 10.3 and Office 2004.

Either than, or boot to OS 9.

There's nothing wrong with Office 2001 -- it's a great product. The problem
is that having two OSs sharing the same CPU is always going to be
"interesting". If you want real excitement, try getting OS X, OS 9 and
Windows all running on the same box like I do :)

Cheers
