I work with very large diagrams (up to 5 feet by 3 feet) and use the grid to
align hundreds of objects; the first time I edit a file, the snap to grid is
quite handy. But Visio makes it practically impossible to use the grid,
because every time I expand or contract the diagram page size or switch to
another printer in Page Setup, Visio moves EVERYTHING off the grid alignment.
Suddenly all the objects are laid out off the grid, so aligning new objects
with the old one is practically impossible.
I've created workarounds involving non-printing shapes by which I select
everything and re-align it all back onto the grid after Visio moves it off,
but it would be much nicer if Visio would simply adjust the page size only by
grid units, and not mangle my alignment to the grid.
