''preparing to install'', and than "please wait while microsoft cofigures
office 2003" , and then "install error file not found.... I have to click
cancel 3-4 times before it will let me use 2007

Unfortunately I have no answers for you but more questions. I have a used
computer that had Office 2003 loaded on it and Windows 7. I just started to
use it and now an error message dominates all by saying "preparing to
install" along with an icon of a disc and little computer. When I click
cancel it says that it is preparing to install Office Professional 2003 which
I never had and did not request. But I cannot get rid of that announcement.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it?

Do you have Office 2007 and Office 2003 installed? Microsoft doesn't
recommend having multiple versions installed, and some of the applications
will re-run the installer when starting up.

If you don't need both versions, uninstall what you don't need. Do you have
the Office 2007 Trial installed? If you don't need it, uninstall it, as well
as the Activation Assistant. You might want to then re-install Office 2003
to clean it up / repair it, and you should be okay then.
