when trying to print..office gives message not responding

I am trying to print from office 2007 professional, with vista home premium.
I am on my laptop trying to print thru my desktop. All other things I try to
print work. It says connecting to printer, press esc to cancel...and then
nothing. It will say this forever then the app im in says not responding.
Any ideas..I use this for school and really need to take it with.
