When typing a message the font appears larger than it is set for

Outlook 2003
Although set to Arial 10, messages typed appear much larger. When the
message is sent, the recipient sees the normal Arial 10 font size. Also
appears normal in the Sent Items folder.

Using Word as your mail editor? Examine the Zoom value.
