When typing field entries, Entourage always 'right justifies' -- h

I

Ira

I have an extremely annoying problem.

I have recently switched to Entourage, but in all the entry boxes needed to
fill-out any forms and such within Entourage, whenever I need to type an
entry, Entourage is constantly right-justifying the typing and making it
extremely hard to read instead of the normal left justifying.

Can anyone help me? What the heck is going on?

A million thanks!

Hi Ira,
From: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/bugs/right_align.html

Addresses and the subject line are "Right Aligned" when composing an e-mail.

It is a bug in the complex HTML rendering capability of Entourage.

Only affects some Entourage 2004 users. it happens after such users have
viewed a complex HTML email message.

Fix!

1. Quit Entourage, relaunch, and go back to composing your emails
without reading any new messages in case they're complex HTML until you're
done writing.
or

2. Turn off "Display complex HTML" in the Security prefs, restart.

Hope this works

Ira, this is an ongoing -- and admittedly very annoying -- bug in Entourage,
and Microsoft is aware of it. I spent months with Microsoft's online help
trying to identify the problem - to no avail. If you go back several months
on this board, you'll find similar posts from me and other folks as well as
some feedback from a couple of Microsoft MVPs.

Unfortunately, this issue affects only a limited number of users, but indeed
the program is somewhat crippled because of the bug. If you're like me,
using the Address book and Calendar (appointments/tasks) functions is near
impossible because data just doesn't even appear in the fields, and you're
often shooting in the dark trying to input data because the data is not
echoed properly when you type. The font is too large for the field, or it
doesn't show up, or it's right-justified. Fact is that if you only have the
"right justification" problem, you're lucky, since some of us experience far
worse.

If you've observed carefully, you've probably noticed that the problem only
appears after you launch Entourage AND you view an email formatted with rich
text (HTML) and graphics. If you stick with viewing plain text messages,
then it won't do it. However, once you click on a rich-text/HTML formatted
item, Entourage goes haywire and everything from that point on is
problematic. The only way to fix it is to quit Entourage and re-launch it
-- but with the first email you view in HTML, you're back to square one.

Online help has suggested only viewing in plain text -- which, while perhaps
an interim solution, doesn't help those of us who rely on HTML-formatted
email. Moreover, this program should handle such emails flawlessly.

Regrettably, the problem was not fixed in Service Pack 1. I've been told by
Microsoft's help folks that the bug has been escalated, and supposedly
they're working on it. FYI, the internal "Bug ID" number is 232. One of
the Microsoft MVPs indicated that programmatically, this bug may be more
complex to fix and thus takes more work because its cause may lie deep
within the program structure and perhaps in conjunction with OS X.

All I can tell you is to be patient and hope that the fix makes the next
Service Pack or interim release.

I'm as frustrated as you are since I use this program most all day, every
day.

Craig
