When You Click a File Icon, PowerPoint Starts but the File Does Not Open as Expected

Hi All;

When I double-click the icon for Microsoft Power Point ( .ppt) file ( or
right-click the icon and then click Open), power point starts but the file
does not open as expected. However I can open the presentation by starting
the Power point and then choose File --> Open.

I played with assoc and ftype but no luck, then searched Microsoft
Knowledgebase ( ofcourse on google too), got hit which describe a similar
problem with Excel in article 304424,

I followed the same instructions to resolve the problem, but no luck.
Please help.

My machine config is
OS : Win 2K Pro with SP4 build 2195. ( the problem was not
introduced by SP4, it exists even before ).
Office 2000, SR -1.
