Where are the 2003 updates hidden???

Mark Scott

I have tried to download the latest junk filter and the SPs (5 updates in
all). The download crashed out and when I re-run office update it says all
5 were downloaded and went straight to the install (which failed).

I teleted Temp Internet Files. Temporary files and the updates are still
listed as being downloaded. any ideas?

Mark,
I'm sorry you are having problems getting the patches to work. Can you
clarify a few things for me? If you go to Office Update now, does the site
still tell you that you need the patches and then it fails again? Are you
trying to install them all at once? Can you try applying them one at a time?
If you do them all at once and one fails, it is difficult for me to
determine which patch might be causing you problems. If you can isolate the
patch, I should be able to help you further. Thanks and looking forward to
your response.

Hi Cindy

I go to Officeupdate and it does a scan for the patches, the 5 patches come
up and are ticked but each one says 0KB / Already Downloaded. So it does
not matter if I select all or one, I cannot get them to download again
because the site is saying I already have them on the PC. I have cleared
cache and windows temp files.

Mark,

The Office Update site places the downloaded update files in your <drive
letter>\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\cabs folder. The design is to download
the files and remove them upon successful update installation. The reason
you are seeing them as "already downloaded" is because they have not been
successfully installed and to save you time and bandwidth they stay on your
drive until they are installed correctly. Once they are installed
successfully the Office Update site will remove them from the drive.

Hi Mark,
The updates are listed under C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\Cabs directory. Close the Officeupdate site, and the delete any directories under the Cabs directory. Then reun detection and the patches should be downloaded again (detection results may vary, depending on whether some patches were sucessfully applied in the first try).

Thanks

Thanks Hugo and Rohit, that has solved the issue. 2 others queries though:

1, why does the download meter refresh every 2 seconds on Office Update
when it is Live on Windows Update?

2, The Office Updates install failed with NO ERROR MESSAGE on the site,
however if I use the MSP installer it comes back as invalid source (due to
the fact Windows magically reassigned drive letters and didn;t update the
registry!!!) - can you get this sorted to always confirm the drive source??

Mark--

"I teleted Temp Internet Files.Temporary files and the updates are still
listed as being downloaded."

I'm not sure if this is a typo here (I don't know if you mean you deleted
Temporary files as well as TIFs). I'd look for them in whatever folder you
were sending them before the crash by one of the words in the name or
perhaps use the wore "enu" or "Office 2003" or "Outlook 2003 filter" in
search, if you're curious but you don't need to find them. Why not just go
here?

http://office.microsoft.com/officeu...ID=CD010224941033&CTT=4&Origin=ES790020041033

and download the ones that apply to your needs here again. But, this time
to do it quickly just send them to a new folder on your desktop called
"Mark's MOS 03 Downloads" or whatever so you'll know where they are to get
them quickly installed. Then if you like to save download executables in
one place you can drag this folder wherever.

Best,

Chad Harris
