Where did Maps for Outlook go in Vista??

A

Ashley Maggard

I recently bought a laptop that has Vista. Previously, the only computer I
had was my desktop that has XP. I have the 2007 Office Suite installed on
both computers. On my desktop (XP), I have the Live Search Maps add-in
installed for Outlook. Well, I went to do that on my laptop and lo and
behold, it's nowhere to be found. Literally, the page is not found on
Microsoft's website. Furthermore, the "Location" button in the appointment
window is also nowhere to be found. In XP, I had those three buttons,
Appointment, Scheduling, and Location, all together where you could switch
between those aspects of the appointment. I only have Appointment and
Scheduling now in Vista.

Am I just completely missing something, or did Microsoft disable this
feature?

For me, I use go to http://maps.live.com, enter the location, position
and zoom the map how I want, and then copy the URL into an e-mail. The
recipient can decide if they want to see a graphical map or not. If
they already know the location, they don't need a map displayed in their
e-mail.

The problem is that when I click the download button it says page not found.

Maybe they pulled it per the problems noted with it using an old version
of CDO as mentioned in the article in my other post. You'll have to
wait until they republish the product. Until then, just insert a URL
into your e-mails to the Live Maps page for the location.

I don't use it to give recipients a map, I use it for me to have a map when I
make an appointment. It's much more convenient having it integrated into
Outlook than going to a separate website. If I had to do that, I'd use google
or yahoo maps.

So has Microsoft removed this download completely?

It looks like they pulled it. Did you save the download on the desktop
system? if so you can copy it to the new computer and run it. Search for
LEO_setup.exe.

That's my problem, I installed it so long ago that it's been long deleted. Oh
well, thanks.

I started having the same problem. I did have a copy of the original set-up
file so I uninstalled and reinstalled the add-in. Unfortunately I am still
getting an error that it can't find an object when loading the appointment
form. I removed the appointment form and the problem goes away but Live
Search Maps is no longer functional. I suspect Microsoft disabled the
application and has pulled the download off the site but has neglected to
notify it's customers. I can understand pulling an application that has
issues but not saying anything about it is inexcusable. But this seem to be
inline with the mindless idiots that are managing the "Live Services" product
line.

I have seen several posts regarding Live Search Maps being taken down. I
used this application too and although there were a few issues with the
debugger launching this was very valuable. Dissappointing that MS chose to
pull the plug and not notifiy users.

If you kept a copy of the exe file you downloaded to install it, you can
still use it.

This is exactly what brought me here today! I've been getting the debugger
message for a while and was looking for a fix/update. Sadly, it appears
removal is the only solution (or deal with the error message, but it *is*
kind of annoying.)
