Where do deleted One Note files go?

When I delete a file or page from One Note, it doesn't end up in the recycle
bin, but disappears. Where does it go? And why does the folder that
contained it originally stay the same size (it doesn't get smaller by the
file size deleted e.g. 2Mb)?

It gets stored (temporarily) "in" File | Open Backup."

Since it doesn't get permanently deleted, the file size won't change.

And you can control these settings in Tools \ Options | Backup.

If I delete a page before the backup is made, the page seems to go to doggie
heaven.

When you say it doesn't get permanently deleted, that's only true until the
files are "optimized", right?
