where do i find the "half moon" projected half-completed symbol?

i've seen people use this symbol, but can't find it anywhere in Office. this
is basically a circle w/ half of it darkened. People use this symbol to
indicate that something is half done.

also, where can i find a complete list of Microsoft symbols and special
characters?

what you are referring to
called character map.

it can be accessible in
variety of way:

1) shortcut in your start menu
2) start > run > charmap.exe
3) office programs - insert menu option
