Where Do I Get Extra Fonts?

G

Gillian White

I have Office 2000 installed on a PC running Windows 2000 Professional.

My Word installation comes with the standard set of fonts that are supposed
to be available for it, as defined on the Microsoft website.

However, my PC at work, which runs the same setup, has a HUGE list of fonts,
some of which I'd like to use on my own machine.

Also, my hubbie has Windows/Office XP, and has a much better font selection
than I do.

Do these extra fonts have to be purchased as an add-on, or are they
available for download somewhere? I've checked all of my setup CDs, and
can't find any extra fonts anywhere.

Cheers,

Gillian

There are free fonts and paid-for fonts. They are not Office specific - you
can get them anywhere, and they install into Windows' Fonts folder. Try a
little googling :)

See also www.microsoft.com/typography for interesting and useful resources.

Please respond in the same thread on this newsgroup. Make sure you
include details of your application and Windows versions, and whether
or not you have included any service pack updates.

Yeah, I tried that, but the free fonts I downloaded look terrible when you
use them in Word - they're very jaggy and uneven. And I'm guessing that the
good ones are only available for a price ;-)

There must be thousands of font vendors around so try a few more...or look
for an inexpensive font-pack or install a DTP apckage that will usually have
scores of new fonts.

Do you have other than a generic printer installed?
