Where is file saved to after recovery

Hello I am running Microsoft Office (docx) on an XP. I had to recover a word
document after my computer stopped running. I didn't change the name of the
document after recover and I continually saved it while I was working on it.
When I attempt to open the file later, only the post-recover pre-saved
version exists. Is there somewhere else Microsoft Office sends these
documents to. If not is there any way to recover the lost information?

I suggest that you use Advanced Search in Windows Explorer confining it to
files changed during the date and time that you were saving the missing
document.

Sounds like a bad third party add-in. Test by running in Safe Mode. From
Start, Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document now. If it is OK now, then you have
installed something that has placed an incompatible add-in in Word/Office.
