Where is formula bar?

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Pardon me for a newbie question (though I've been using Excel for 20+ years) but I don't even know the terminology: I just upgraded to Excel 2008 and the information about the formula in the cell, which used to be in the upper right-hand corner of the window, is completely gone. How do I tell what formula is being done to calculate the value in the cell?

Hi,

if you really mean the formula bar (which usually covers the entire
screen and is not just limited to one corner), then try View>Formula
Bar. Keep in mind that despite the changes made to the user interface in
Office 2008, the formula bar is still not part of the main document
window, but remains above it. Of course, you can resize it and drag it
anywhere you want.

Thanks! It's in such a different place on the screen (above the window, not on it in the menus) that it looked like it was in a program behind Excel. I guess some people need a really long formula.

Its re-sizable in 2008 version. The difference between 2008 and 2004 and previous, is that formatting and other items were all on separate menu bars and could be placed to the side or across the top or bottom. Now there is one big bar that is a part of file. The Formula Bar still float but can only be place at top. I like the 2004 style a 1000 times better. you could customize the menus and place exactly what you wanted on the menu bars and not have items you don't need. (Same with Word but that's another subject for another forum). These designers design for what they think is fashionable for the day and not for what the users consider the most efficient way to use an application and save screen space. Not everyone has a 27-32" monitor where space is unlimited.
