Where is index page?

DavidF,

Thank you for your reply to my previous question on March 22, about not
being able to publish. I was not able to sign in through news.microsoft.com,
so I’m back in the Discussion group with another problem.

Since my previous post, I installed Publisher 2003 and created a new Web
site to replace what is currently online. I have been able to upload the
entire folder with all the files to my server through ftp.

The problem is that when I save the Publisher Web site to a folder in my
computer, the home page – or index page – is not in the folder. All the other
pages, all the images, sounds, and even the images on the home page are in
the file folder, but the index page itself is not there. I did label the home
page “index†in Web Page Options under file name.

Without the index page, the first page does not have the navigation bar, and
the other links I created lead to a message that the page is unavailable.

I also tried Filezilla. I had some trouble downloading it but once it was
installed I could not figure out what I had to do to access either my files
or my Web server. I uninstalled it. Either way, I still need the index page.

Please tell me what needs to be done to get this working. Where is the index
page? I remember reading in one of the tutorials that Publisher creates the
index page and everything else is saved within it, but I need to have the
index page for my Web site to work. There are no forms on the Web site, and
I’m using Vista and IE7. Also, right now I have unblocked the firewall.

Once again, thanks so much for your help.

Janice,

I guess what they say is true...if you don't use it, you loose it. ;-)

When you Publish to the Web both an index.htm file and an index_files folder
are produced. Look more closely at where you directed the output on your
computer and your index.htm file will be there.

Pub 2000 and older helped out a bit with this problem by automatically
producing a folder called "Publish", and putting all the html output there
each time you published your html. Perhaps that would help you. Create a
folder on your hard drive called "Publish" or "WebsiteHTML" or some such,
and always direct your output to that folder when you Publish to the Web.
Then you will always know where to look for the output, and it will always
overwrite the old output.
