Where is information/definition of Menu items in Word 2008?

I can't remember in Word vX but in Word 5.1a there was a definition for
each preference and menu item.

Specifically, I'm trying to find out:

View/Markup: what Markup does, what selects/deselects it to save setting
in template.

and

File/Properties:
is this information "managed" by most users? by pro users?
and is this a source document for other data fields (change it here and
it will change _____ )
