Where is my Formatting toolbar?

I can't make my formatting or other toolbars, e.g. review, appear. All I have at the top of my screen is a narrow gray bar with the filename in it. When I go to View-> toolbars and check or uncheck the toolbars, e.g. formatting or review, nothing changes at the top of my screen.
I am used to Word 2003. I know this interface is different but in images I see of open Word 2008 documents, I see a formatting toolbar at the top. How can I make mine appear?

Never mind. I just figured out what that button at the top right hand corner is for? It displays or hides the toolbars!

Thank you. I found my toolbars again! I thought they had gone forever because, no mater what I did I could not get them to appear. I reckon that someone else was using my computer and clicked on that button without knowing it. I didn't know what it was for until I read your solution.

I do get a bit carried away from time to time.
