Where is Outlook?

T

Terry Pinnell

Years ago I installed Outlook as part of Microsoft Office 2000 SR
Premium. I have hardly ever used it, as I am a long time user of Agent
for e-mail and news reading. Recently I bought a Pocket PC, and I
installed Outlook 2002 from the iPAQ CD, in the expectation that I
might *have* to use Outlook when I get around to handling e-mail with
my new toy.

I just tried running Outlook 2002, but can't find it! Yet it has ane
entry in my Add/Remove Programs list. I did a Check/Repair and the CD
installed it again. Still no sign of it anywhere in Start>Programs.
But I *can* see Microsoft Outlook 2000 despite fact that was *not* in
the Add/Remove Programs list... Yet when I try to run that one
(thinking maybe it's really Outlook 2002), I'm asked for my Office
2000 CD. I cancelled out at that point, as my head started to ache
<g>.

What the heck can be going on here please?

If you actually installed Outlook 2002 from the Pocket PC (which I doubt),
then Outlook 2000 would have been overwritten as there can only be one
version installed. Outlook is a separate CD for most PPC makers and comes
with its own EULA and Product ID number that you must use to install it.

If you did not have to go through the extra installation of Outlook, using
the 25 character PID, then you will have to go back and do this.

Sounds like something went very wrong with your install. Outlook 2000
should not appear anywhere on any menu if Outlook 2002 has been installed.

What program opens if you use the Outlook link to open it?

| Thanks, Milly. I installed Outlook 2002 on my XP Home PC, as per
| instructions, from the Pocket PC CD. (Also installed ActiveSync.)
|
| With my original detailed description, does that help diagnosis
| please?
|
| Advice I had elswhere was, when I get the message from Office *2000*,
| to go ahead and give it my old Office 2000 CD. But I can't get my head

|
| As mentioned, Outlook 2002 is now showing in Add/Remove, and no other
| 'Outlook' is in that list. So I just don't see why the only 'Outlook'
| available in my Start Menu (or anywhere else on my PC as far as I can
| see!) appears to be Outlook 2000, and that now needs my Office 2000
| CD... ;-(

As mentioned in my OP "..when I try to run that one (thinking maybe

The actual program that runs is Microsoft Installer. As I said, I
haven't so far allowed it to proceed, i.e. I cancel out before
inserting the Office 2000 SR Premium CD, as I need to understand
better what's going on!

Try reinstalling Outlook 2002 from the CD supplied with your PDA. Select
the Maintenance mode if you are presented with that option. Then select
Reinstall All.
