Where is "Save As"?

Why doesn't my Word in Office 2008 have a "Save As" function? I have a "Save as Web Page," but not just a general "Save as." This is really annoying when I'm trying to make multiple documents that are similar. The function exists in Excel, but not Word.

It does.

Does the F12 keyboard shortcut work for you?

Thanks for you replies. F12 brings up my dashboard widgets. I did check to see if my "menu" was checked, and it was. I checked it again and hit "reset," but that didn't work. It simply doesn't seem to exist in my program. I had this same problem in my previous version, which is one of the reasons I upgraded. Does anyone know how else this might be addressed? I'm one of the folks who was unable to register my product.

Should be under File menu should be either below the choice *Save*
should be listed as *Save AS...*

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

This has nothing to do with registering your product so don't worry about
that.

This is a long shot, but check your View menu. If Word 5.1 menus is
checked, uncheck it.

If that's not it, try testing your preferences as explained here:
<http://word.mvps.org/Mac/DamagedPrefs.html>

And if that still doesn't work, come back and we'll go deeper.

Thanks, Beth. I'm not sure what exactly you meant by the "View" menu, so I checked a couple places. The View that is at the top that has different views as well as where to customize the toolbars, which I looked at. I also looked in the "view" area in the preferences section. In neither place could I find something that said "Word 5.1" for me to either check or uncheck. Perhaps I wasn't looking in the right place, though.

So, I did the second thing you recommended. I removed all the preferences for 2008 as well as for X, but I still got nowhere. There is still no "Save as" function in the File drop down menu. Should I try to reinstall Word at this point?

Reinstalling never fixes anything on a Mac. The files that get damaged are
not on the CD to be reinstalled.

Do this procedure carefully:

1) Close all documents, then create a blank document.

2) Right-click the toolbar at the top and choose Customise Keyboard and
Menus

3) Observe that a new, smaller toolbar has appeared above the main menu
bar, with copies of the menus on it. Each menu on that toolbar has a small
black disclosure triangle on it.

4) In the main Customise Toolbars and Menus dialog, click the Commands tab
at the top.

5) In the Categories column, click the File item.

6) In the Commands column, locate the Save As command and highlight it.

7) Hold down your left mouse button and drag the Save As command towards
the File menu on the small toolbar at the top.

8) When you get close enough to the word "File", the File menu will spring
open.

9) Drag the "Save As" command down the menu and drop in immediately below
the Save command.

Let go everything and OK your way out. Quit Word. When you restart, you
will have your Save As command back where it should have been.

Take care not to delete it again :)

Cheers

Thank you, John and Beth for your help with this matter. John, that did the trick. I was almost there before, but not quite. I have no idea how it got deleted in the first place as I don't remember ever going into that menu before. Thanks again for helping me from around the world!

My guess is Command + Option + -

It deletes the "next" menu item you touch :)
