Where is the envelope template?

Jack Gillis

Yesterday, I posted this query in Office.Misc and now realize I probably
should have posted it here. Please forgive the mistaken cross post.

Years ago, I set up some sort of template for printing envelopes with my
return address in Word 97. It still provides the return address every
time I prepare an envelope so I know it is out there somewhere. I just
can't find it. I thought its name was envelope.dot, but apparently it's
not.

The reason I ask is that I am about to install Office 2003 from scratch
and want to make sure I save all my customization stuff from 97. I've
found every thing, including macros, green alligators and long necked
geese, but can't find the unicorn :)

Thank you.

Envelopes are part of the Envelopes and Labels dialog. The Return Address is
actually a Style and picks up the return address from the data that you
entered in Tools, Options, User Information tab. The Envelope Address is
also a Style too.

You won't find an Envelope Template unless you specifically created one
yourself.

Thank you very much, Terry. I looked and sure 'nuf there was my return
address right where I must have put in years ago. It seems like I
remember doing that. Now, what to I have to do to get that style over
to 2003 which I intend to fresh install into a different directory? I
want to make sure I don't do away with the 97 customization until I am
fully satisfied (if that can ever be) with the 2003 installation.

Thank you again.

Theoretically, if you haven't changed the default envelope style, it will be
the same in the new version of Word. However, if you want to preserve your
settings, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/FilesToBackup.htm

If you want an envelope template, there is a sample available from the
downloads page of my web site which employs a few techniques which may
interest you - http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm
