Where is the file?

I was sent a word document via email attachment and made
several edits to it. I periodically saved my work by going
to File-Save (rather than SAVE AS). Now I can't locate my
document--I did many searches for it by file name, date,
text, but no document appears. I searched for auto
recovery files (,y computer auto saves every 10 minutues)
but couldn't find any of these files and then looked for
it in a temporary folder and located it but when I try and
open it, it tells me incorrect path or permission. How do
I get back my document?

This is just one of the many reasons we tell you not to open attachments
directly. As long as you were working on the file opened from the
attachment, you were saving it to a temporary folder. As soon as you quit
Word, the document was deleted. If you're going to open attachments directly
(risking macro viruses and other nasties), you must at least immediately
Save As, but it's much simpler just to Save As before opening.

Are you on a network? Is it possible it was saved somewhere on the network?

In the File menu, is the file still listed among the recently used files?
What about in Start - Documents? Is it listed there? Or, if you're using the
Journal feature in Outlook... is the file listed there?
