Where is the global enterprise template for Project Server?

We just installed Project Server in my company... I am set up as the
administrator and have set up a few users. I took an existing project plan
and tried to publish it but got an error regarding trying to publish a
non-enterprise plan. I do not see any way to edit the global from project
server.. there is nothing there to check out. I am completely lost. I
cannot make any additional progress without identifying where the global
enterprise template is and how to apply it to the project plans. Although
the enterprise related menu options are listed in MS Proj - they are grayed
out so I am very limited.

Hi jdavis,

Project Server can run in 2 different modes, once is called enterprise
features and one is called "non" enterprise features.
By default Project Server have the enterprise feature enabled, which makes
sense when we talk about Enterprise Project Management. with this feature all
of your projects that you upload will need to obey to rules set by the global
template.

In your case you are trying to upload an existing Project ( generated
outside of Project Server) without considering the Global template ( by the
way the global template can be opened in Project Professional under Tools >
Enterprise options > open Enterprise Global). Project Server tells you that
it doesnt allow this.

There are 2 ways that are able to use existing projects.
1. enable the non enterprise features ( under PWA > Admin > Server
configuration). This allows you to import projects not generated in Project
Server, but it also means that you loose all enterprise features of Project
Server.
2. Import the project using the import wizard in Project Professional under
Tools > Enterprise features > Import project to Enterprise....) This wizard
leads you through the steps you need to consider when importing the project
into Project Server.

Jdavis, it sounds like that you are new to Project Server and there are many
things to consider when implementing Project Server, I would suggest that you
may look for consultancy, so that you can get the full benefit of Project
Server.

I hope this helps

From your description about items being "grayed out" on the Enterprise
Options menu, refer to the following link for directions on how to create an
Administrator login for Project Server in Microsoft Project Professional:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/CreateAdministratorLoginAccount.htm

After creating your login account, you can open the Enterprise Global file
for editing by clicking Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise
Global. After you make changes to this file, you must save and close it,
and then exit and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional to "refresh" the
cached Global file on your PC.

In order to bring the project in question into the Project Server database,
you must import it using Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to
Enterprise. Pay special attention to the page in the wizard that deals with
resources, and make sure you map local resources in the project with
enterprise resources found in the Enterprise Resource Pool.

Given you inexperience with the software, refer to the following link for
more information about Project Server 2003:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/PS2003Documentation.htm

Hope this helps.
