where is the list of addins kept

Hi,

When I add an global addin, through Tools-> Templates and Addins, Word
remembers the next time I start Word what I added and sometimes what I
selected.

Where does Word store this information? I deleted normal.dot and it was
still available next time I opend Word. Is it in the registry or in an
encrypted file?

thanks

Hi,

The article you suggested was a good one if I want to find how the files got
to be loaded but my question is how does Word remember if an add-in template
has been checked in the Tools--> Templates and Addins menu choice? I

f a template is attached it is possible to uncheck it so if it is not in the
startup folder for templates it will not be loaded next time Word starts.
Where is this information stored?

thanks,

Global templates are loaded if they are in a StartUp folder. The checkboxes
under Tools > Templates and AddIns tell you whether or not they are loaded -
they do not tell Word to load or not load and the settings are not saved.

I am still trying to find how how Word remembers what templates to load when
it starts. Global templates (those in the startup template folderlocation)
are loaded when Word starts. Other templates load if then have been checked
off in the Tools->Templates and Addins menu choice. Where does Word save
these choices?

thanks,

Details of COM AddIns are held in the registry (HKLM and/or
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Word\AddIns). AFAIK the only other place
where any data may be held is the Word Data key (also in the registry, at
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\nn.0\Word\Data - substitute your own version
number for nn).
