Where is the pro.msi file required to update Office XP Prof?

S

Strictor

I have never been able to install updates for Office XP Professional because
the installation wizard requires that I locate a file called pro.msi on the
Office CD. I have searched the CD and found other *.msi files, but not the
one required. I have tried requesting the larger file that supposedly doesn't
require the CD, but I always end up in the same place. I need the security
update and find this situation maddening. Please help and thanks in advance.

Do you have a PDA that came with Outlook? Do you have a version of Word
from a Works product? If yes, put in either of those CDs and see if the
update continues without error.

Thanks, Tom. I thought that would be the solution but, unfortunately, I seem
to be stuck in a loop. Through that article, I discovered the Detect and
Repair utility. I opened Word, chose Detect and Repair, it asked for my
Office XP Pro installation CD, and the CD just spun around. I then got a
"setup unsuccessful" message and am back with the original problem. I cannot
install Office updates. There is one listed as critical, but I cannot update
without the pro.msi file. Thank you.
