Where is the visio.bin in Visio 2003?

In the past version (2002 and back) you could create a folder uner the
"SOLUTIONS" folder in visio and drop your custom files there. When you
deleted the visio.bin file, visio would re-inspect and re-build this bin file
which would pickup your custom VSL's, Templetes, etc...

I cannot seem to find the "Solutions" folder or the bin file in Visio 2003.
Has the way you register VSL add-ons and Templetes changed? If so can you
direct me to some documentation that specifies these new procedures?

Yes, Visio 2003 uses a new mechanism for registering add-ons and templates.
Download the SDK from MSDN and check out the Publish Components Tool to help
you with this process. This is the recommended method and results in more
robust installation and faster execution speed for Visio.

Also the folder-based method still works in Visio 2003, but you must go into
Tools > Options > Advanced > File Paths to designate the directories that
contain your content.

John,

I have been developing Visio solutions since version 4.1 and this "change"
from the old methods was not documented very well in the SDK.

I think diseminating this information for all those that develop Addon's be
it EXE's or VSL's would greatly benefit since they will not find what they
need to upgrade there addons to Visio 2003 easily in the documentation.

After reviewing the Publish Component method, it looks to be a better
solution to integrating custom apps but is not as strait forward and requires
some understanding of working with .MSI files. Some examples would go a
little ways to fleshing this out in the SDK documention.
