where to locate a dot template

Brian Murphy

Hello All,

I'm puzzled!

I have a file my_macros.dot containing several macros and a toolbar
for running them.

When I put this file in the Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office11/
Startup folder, the macros&toolbar are available but the I can't work
on the code because the "project is unviewable".

When I move it the desktop and open it manually from there, I can work
on the code, but the toolbar is not available to other open word
documents.

Word always opens Normal.dot and I can work on code in that file. I
tried putting my file in same folder as Normal.dot, but that does not
cause it to get opened automatically. It's not any different than
putting on the desktop.

Where does one put a macro file so you can use it and work on it at
the same time?

Is one way around this to put the toolbar in a file in the Startup
folder that won't be "viewable", and the macros in another file opened
from another location that will be viewable?

Thanks

Brian Murphy

In order to be able to access the macro code the template containing the
code must be opened in Word. You can open it while it is loaded as an
add-in.
