where's good place f/info on locked document

Message is 'Document is locked' Doesn't say by another user (it isn't). It
doesn't say needs a password (it never had one). Document opened, edited and
printed by me in a.m., and in p.m. it is locked.

Good source of ideas? Windows XP machine, Word 2003; Myd ocuments folder and
all documents were put there from a Win98 machine by copying to CD from its
HD, and then copied onto XP machine. User login (with password) now locked
out of them is the same one the documents were copied onto the computer
under. Docs are under my My Documents folder, and were loaded by me.

Suggestions?

By default, files copied from CD have the Read-only attribute set.
Right-click the problematic file and choose Properties, then make sure
that Read-only is not ticked.
