Where's the clip art file!

If I look at the Clip Properties of a clip art image, it gives me the
file name (for instance, an01315_.wmf). The "file path" just gives the
file name, and the Catalog path just says "Macintosh HD...Clip Art
Gallery User Database" which is not actually a folder, but an
application. If I search my hard drive for an01315_.wmf, I get nothing
in the results.

When you download the clip art and open the .cil and your downloaded
art gets put into the viewer, these files must go somewhere. Where are
they, physically?

Use Spotlight in a Finder window to to do a filename search for: Clip
Gallery User Database. It's within the Clipart folder which should contain
what you're looking for, but the location varies with version of Office. The
Spotlight result will point you to yours.

Hi, thanks for the tip on using Spotlight, but it didn't help... I can
find the "Clip Gallery User Database" which is an application, but I'm
looking for the .wmf FILES not an application that "can only be
launched from Office." Were you expecting that somehow by highlighting
"Clip Gallery User Database" I was supposed to see a list of files
like a directory? Because the finder is telling me that it's an
application.

When I use Spotlight to search for .wmf files, the only hits I get are
in the Office 2004../blah/blah/personal folder, and NOT the files I
downloaded, say, today.

Where is it putting the files .wmf files I am downloading with 2008
installed?

(I'm asking because if I try to insert the files into Word using
insert/clip art, now, the gallery application crashes every single
time.)

What I was "suggesting" is that by navigating to where the database is
located you would find the clipart files themselves. The Spotlight search
doesn't reveal any other content in the same folder other than what is being
searched for.

Now that you've identified which version of Office you're using - and that
you apparently have both 2004 & 2008 currently installed - I can give you
more specific information. Office 2008 essentially takes precedence over any
prior versions, so there are actually 2 separate clip art instances to be
concerned with. The default stuff is integrated into the 2008 library:

Applications\Microsoft Office 2008\Office\Media\Clipart

However, new downloads are stored on a per-user basis in:

UserName\Library\Application Support\Microsoft\Office\Clipart\Personal

The newly added images will only be available to that user of Office 2008
unless you copy the files to the other respective user account locations or
to the main application clipart folders. If you want to have them available
in the 2004 Gallery you'll have to import them to that library as well. Use
the Gallery interface from within Word (Import button) to do so.

If your attempt to insert clipart [any clipart, just this one image?] is
crashing, however, that's possibly a separate issue.
