Where's the key hole?

I'm trying to install a brand new copy of Microsoft Office for Mac
2004 on my laptop. The laptop already had an old copy on but this was
installed in error as the software was licensed to another machine.
I've made best efforts to remove the old software and replace it with
the new but during the instllation process I'm not being asked for the
product key code. As a result I'm getting share violations with the
other machine whenever both are online - I keep getting bumped out of
Office because the machines believe 2 PCs are using the same licence.
How can I get my machine to recognise the new software as unique so I
get to enter the new product key and get the relevant new licence
applied to my machine?
Thanks in anticipation of your advice and guidance

You didn't remove Office with the "remove Office" tool, did you?

There are two options open to you.

1) "Remove Office" properly with the correct tool, and reinstall; or
2) There's some magic somewhere where you can delete the licence key,
forcing it to ask for your new one. However, I cannot remember where
this is, and it may not work outside of the Student & Teacher version
(which allows any of three keys).

I would be inclined to go for the first option (it does not affect
any .doc or .xls files you created, for example, provided they are in
a sensible place like not in the application's directory).

Run the Remove Office utility & when the first screen apears hold down the
Option Key while you select "Remove Licensing Info". You don't ahve to
remove Office, itself. The next time you attempt to launch an Office app you
will be prompted to enter the new license key.
