Which alternative email clients work well with Outlook 2007?

Hi.

I have just installed Office 2007 in preparation for my new small
business which I start next month. I intend to use Outlook for what
it was designed for, a PIM, BUT I *hate* outlook express and don't
want to use it for email.

Until now I have always used Pegasus Mail. I'm trying Thunderbird at
the moment but there are other clients such as Eudora, the Bat.
Incredimail, Mail Warrior, Mulberry... the list goes on. I want a
simple email client that is easy to use for the less PC literate
person, [1] but that will be able to use the outlook adress book. Is
that possible?

To save me installing, trying and ununstaling them all, what can you
tell me about them? Which ones have you had bad or good experiences
with?

What does Outlook Express have to do with this? It's not related to Outlook 2007 at all.

Outlook was designed as a mail client + PIM.

Why wouldn't you just use Outlook then? Outlook is no more difficult to
configure for mail than is Outlook Express, or Thunderbird, for that matter.

Outlook is fine for email, sounds like you missed that part of the program
and are using Outlook Express...?

Not familiar with all the others you mentioned -- except The Bat!. It's ok,
but doesn't display pictures in HTML formatted email. You have to view the
HTML as an attachment -- kind of a pain. Outlook doesn't have that
limitation, but, it loads HTML messages >every< time you view them instead
of just the first time (they don't save to disk to save time on subsequent
viewing).

As I said, I have #just# installed it so I haven't loked at all the
features yet. First time I have used it and I (wrongly, obviously)
thought Outlook called OE to use as an email client. I didn't realise
it had email *built in*.

Outlook does use Outlook Express to read news (Go>News), but for mail, it's
functional in itself.

So use whatever you want. Outlook doesn't enter into the picture.

Personally, I'm a Thunderbird fan for email, Agent for newsgroups, and
Outlook as a PIM.
