Which database the Workspace List (issues,risks,document,etc.) go?

Which database does the PWA's workspace list go? I am wondering if there is
a different databse for every workspace that is created, then a different
databse for each item in the list or is it all stored on one database. I saw
the issue database and there was only 4 items listed, which would be accurate
for the one workspace however I have created an test issue in another
workspace but do not see it in the same database. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
