If you were downloading SP3 for Office XP from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FD-6F69-4289-8BD1-EB966BCDFB5E&displaylang=en
, you would have a choice of downloading the client version or the
fullfile version. Both versions are included on the CD.
You can use the client version if you have access to your installation
source (usually Office XP product CDs). You will need to provide the
installation source during patch installation if you have previously
updated your Office XP product(s).
You should use the fullfile version if you do not have access to your
installation source or if you experience problems installing the client
version.
The files on the SP3 CD are compressed. When you click on one of them,
you will be prompted to specify a location on your hard drive where the
SP3 installer can decompress the file to. That location can be almost
anywhere you want, as long as you know where it is, and as long as it is
NOT in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office" or wherever your Office
program files are located. I seem to recall that once the SP3 installer
decompresses the file, it automatically starts the setup program. If
that doesn't happen for you, then you can manually run the setup.exe
file in the folder you specified earlier.
