Which Frontpage to buy?

C

ChrisCox

I had Frontpage 3.0 running on Windows XP. Suddenly is doesn't open and says
I need "32 bit TCP / IP networking installed". It had been having issues
with fonts and not loading right for a while, but I worked around it. Now
I'm in a bind and need to update some information and cannot access my page
at all. My web host contact is on vacation until the 24th and I need to do
something last week! I think I need to update but don't know what to buy. I
have a huge hard drive for working with videos but a 26.4 Kbps connection
speed so I have to buy something at a store and not download it. We are near
a Walmart but 1 1/2 hours from Best Buy and cannot get to one soon. I do my
own site (horse & dog breeding) and don't want a lot of bells a whistles
that are hard to download because many of my customers have slow dialup also.
Any ideas for a computer illiterate that really liked the old Frontpage
Express?

Thanks so much for any ideas,

Chris Cox

The only available version of FP is FP 2003.

you can order fp2003 online still and I bet UPS delivers to OK...you don't
have to drive anywhere

Yeah, we use UPS a LOT. :)

I got it to work now. McAffe was blocking me! Is fp 2003 a great
improvement over 98? Would I be better off with the new Expression Web? I
really like Fp express... not to much to figure out! :)))

Thanks,

Chris

Yes 2003 is much improved over 98 and FP Express hasn't existed in a long
while either.
And, I'm not using FP much either, since EW is released.

I'll have to take your word for it. It would take me around 22 hours to
download that trial and my connection hasn't ever held more than 3 or 4 hours
at a time even if I get up at 1am to try it.

I can probably find Front page much cheaper than Expression web. Would it
be worth the difference in price just doing my own, simple site without any
bells and whistles that take a long time to load? Is there much difference
between fp 2002 & 2003? Ebay seams to have a lot of both available for a
reasonable price.

If you have the choice, go for FP2003. Both FP2002 and FP2003 have
very different interfaces from FP98 and earlier versions, but, in my
opinion, FP2003 is the best. I prefer FP2000 to FP2002.
Do not buy an upgrade CD unless you have FP98 - I don't think FP97 and
earlier qualify, FP Express definitely does not qualify for the upgrade.

Any version of FrontPage (from FP2000 onwards) can do simple sites very
easily - the later versions don't change your code unless it is really
bad, whereas the earlier versions sometimes insist on code being written
their way ...
