Which Mac OS is compatible?

That hasn't been announced, AFAIK.

Just looking at it from a sales/marketing standpoint, it will certainly
be compatible with Tiger and, depending on Apple's progress with
Leopard, I'd assume that OS too, though simultaneous development often
leads to glitches.

Panther still has a large installed base, so I'd guess that Office 2008
will be compatible with at least some version of Panther (i.e., 10.3.x).

I'd be rather surprised if any previous OS version was supported.

Most new software released tends to now be 10.3 and above. I'd also
think they'd support Panther, as there doesn't really seem to be a huge
difference between Tiger and Panther.

Since were speculating here, let me approach the subject from a somewhat
different perspective :)

If you take into consideration that Apple isn't advancing 10.3 (it's quite
unlikely that we'll see a "10.3.9.x"), Apple has typically not actively
supported 3 major OS releases concurrently in the past, the imminent release
of 10.5, it (Panther) won't run Intel Macs & one of the major motivations
for 2008 is "Intel-native"... I'm guessing that *if* 2008 will run on 10.3
that it will be severely limited & wholly unsupported.

But wadda I know?

I am expecting it's going to be 10.4 and above, on PPC and Intel.

That's not the point of his question :) He wants to know how far back it
will reach (i.e. How many of his machines will require an operating system
upgrade to run it).

I think I just ruined his day :)

Either that or Open Office will start to look real good ;-)

Seriously, half my clients are still using PC Office 97. None of them
going to Vista any time soon because of it.

Office 2008 would have to be fairly broken to make OpenOffice look good :)
Have you tried it?

I avoid clients who are still using Word 97: they're not worth the hassle
any more. But Word 2000 is still popular.

You wouldn't expect businesses to go up to Vista for another three or four
years: it takes a large corporation that long to get things upgraded.
There's no point in upgrading a desktop machine these days: it costs you
more to upgrade than you would save.

So I wouldn't expect Vista or Office 2007 to take off in the corporate space
for about 2 or three years (when they start replacing machines as they
become due).

Cheers

Of course it is?
