Which PDF Conversion Settings?

Shirlz

I am struggling to learn what adobe PDF conversion setting I need to use
(Using the print option Distiller/Properties/Adobe PDF Settings. The choices
are: ebook, ebook 1, press, print or screen - but NOWHERE can I find what
the differences are between them. Search is useless.

I need to create PDF's for: web use; and for sending to commercial printers.
What should I select for each?

Help and Thanks!

For the commercial printer, they should send you profile to use. Just
ask them.

For commercial printers you should use the press quality setting. For
web use, use the screen quality setting. The difference is mainly down
to the dpi. 72dpi creates very small file sizes and the quality looks
OK on the screen. Run that through a commercial press and the document
will look awful. Press quality documents are usually a minimum of
300dpi.

Are you printing your document to a Postscript file before running it
through distiller? You may find a commericial printer will just accept
the postscript file without you turning it into a PDF. Also, if you're
sending the document to a commercial printer, have you configured the
Publisher document for CMYK output?
